RACE INFORMATION

Three races are scheduled, two on Saturday and one on Sunday, weather depending. Boats registered will be split into four sub-fleets, to be announced at the Competitors’ meeting and designated by corresponding colors of pennants attached to the sail.

There will be two starts for each of the three races.  Each start will include two of the subgroups, rotated after every race, so that if all races are completed each group will have competed against all three of the others during the course of the regatta.

When we host a large fleet, the four-division format allows all boats to compete against the entire Dixie fleet without setting an impossible starting line.  This always adds fun and intrigue to the races, where top finishes are a premium and even those looking strong on Saturday’s scoreboard aren't always quite sure who the regatta winner is until the last race is completed and competitors are back on shore comparing notes. Just another fun dimension to our one-of-a-kind Dixie and our already challenging lake!

Trophies will be awarded to the top five skippers and crew .

DANCING WITH THE STARS, DIXIE STYLE

Everything you need to know to BE a star

So. . . you’ve always longed to float across the dance floor like butter on a crumpet?  At last —here’s your chance to indulge that fantasy and unleash your latent, jaw-dropping talent.  Dixie dancers don’t need wings to fly, they just need two feet, a flair for showmanship, a bit of bravado and a lust for fun!

Mount Gay Barbados Rum has raised the Dixie bar for us by providing specialty craft cocktails AND sponsoring our after-dinner dance competition.  Dance teams of two or more will get 90 seconds to waltz onto center stage and show their stuff to our panel of celebrity judges, specially selected to recognize awesome talent when they see it and under no circumstances boo you off the dance floor.  You, of course, will be dressed to the nines in glitter and glam, sequins and sashes — or in lieu of that perhaps a cummerbund over your Dixie tee-shirt. . . ?

What’s your strong suit? Ballroom? Cha-Cha? Tango? Jazz?  Hip-hop?  Anything goes, and all ages are welcome to put it out there and bask in the applause that’s sure to follow.  And wait till you hear this!  Arthur Murray Studios in Kennesaw has generously offered 2 FREE PRIVATE LESSONS to Dixie sailors who would like to learn to dance before they try to go pro at our big competition.  You are invited to reach out to Jose Quintanilla at arthurmurrayATL@gmail.com or call (770) 514-7772 to give it a shot!

So. . . NO EXCUSES!  Tap into your inner footloose, dress for the occasion, and join in the Best. Fun. Ever.

Fred Astaire, eat your heart out!
